Getting Started... Well, Sort of.

Thus far, this semester's work has proven to be more of a thorn in my side than an exciting start.

1. My workplace is absolutely atrocious. The off-white cinderblocks make me want to rip down my not-so-precious canvas and take it to a proper studio.

2. This thing is so huge, I can barely get it to stay in place.

3. The lovely aesthetic of black electrical tape has given me some severe OCD while trying to tape evenly (it's impossible).

Believe it or not, I am grateful for this makeshift space.

Aside from the complaints, I'm hoping this will become a rewarding experience for me this semester. My perfectionism is being put to the test on a level I've never experienced. I feel like I've been held back for a month battling this thing, but I'm so ready to start smearing paint on it.

There are some interesting thoughts occurring to me as I reflect on my art-making process and try to bust out of the normal. My desire to dive into the concept has been so suppressed by the necessary planning that I feel all jittery and twitchy. If there isn't a brush in my hand soon (one that's not smothered in Gesso), I may actually explode. You all will find me in bits in this corner of neutral toned fake granite and tacky patterned upholstery.

But hey, smooth seas never made a skillful sailor! Isn't that what the social media quotes say?
